Top 10 Movies To Watch, If You Like The Jurassic World Franchise

The Jurassic World franchise may have come to an end but there are other movies with the same experience. So where can fans start their next binge-watch?

The Jurassic World trilogy has come to a close with the release of Jurassic World: Dominion. The film brought to a conclusion the arc of Owen Grady and Claire Dearing dealing with the release of dinosaurs into the world, which was set across seven years and three films.

Fortunately for fans, there are several other films that they can enjoy once they’re done with the Jurassic World series. These range from straight-up action movies like Taken with similar fight choreography as Jurassic World to big-budget monster films like Kong: Skull Island, which contain creatures like dinosaurs. It’s interesting to see how all these movies can entertain Jurassic World fans in their own way.

In The Heart Of The Sea (2015)

The Jurassic World films have featured Owen and Claire battling the Indominus Rex and Indoraptor as creatures with kill streaks. In the Heart of the Sea has a giant whale that fulfills much of the same role, with the film detailing the sinking of the ship Essex in 1820 when its crew members encounter a mysterious whale.

Journey To The Center Of The Earth (2008)

Before fans were clamoring for actor Brendan Fraser to land a comeback role, he headlined this fantasy adventure film. Journey to the Center of the Earth plays it straight with its title, featuring Fraser’s character heading to the Earth’s core and finding a world hidden deep within.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (2016)

There are plenty of fantasy movies like Fantastic Beasts, but Jurassic World is similar in the way both franchises concern creatures that need to be captured. The first movie sticks close to Jurassic World the most, with the film featuring protagonist Newt Scamander as he attempts to recapture the magical creatures he’s lost over the course of a night.

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon (2011)

Jurassic World Dominion had the world figuring out how to live alongside dinosaurs and the protagonists uncovering the conspiracy behind Lewis Dodgson’s use of the locusts. Transformers: Dark of the Moon also has humans with hidden agendas that ally with the Decepticons to cause an invasion of Earth by the villainous robots.

Kong: Skull Island (2017)

There was a genre shift in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, where the Indoraptor’s menacing personality turned the events into a horror film. Kong: Skull Island has a similar feel with the presence of monsters like the Skullcrawler along with the inclusion of King Kong himself.

Twister (1996)

Released at a time when disaster movies and sci-fi features were on the rise because of Jurassic Park’s success, Twister has some great sequences to behold. It’s about a group of tornado chasers who attempt to launch a device into the tornado to understand how twisters work.

Anacondas: The Hunt For The Blood Orchid (2004)

There are some creature features with incredible replay value, with this being part of the experience. Anaconda 2 is more visceral than its predecessor, as the kills are creative and the pacing leads to the characters’ confrontation with the titular snakes in a dangerous forest.

Deep Blue Sea (1999)

Long considered among the best shark attack movies to watch, this thriller has an interesting premise where genetically enhanced sharks go on the loose and start to hunt humans in an underwater facility. Deep Blue Sea stays close to Jurassic World with the sci-fi premise and villainous creatures like the Indominus Rex and Indoraptor.

Jaws (1975)

Steven Spielberg is responsible for making both Jurassic Park and Jaws the cultural phenomenon they are. Interestingly, it’s Jurassic World that’s closer to Jaws since both have creatures that are specifically hunting down the humans by trapping them in a confined space.

Taken (2008)

While there are no dinosaurs or any kind of creature in Taken, it’s actually quite similar to Jurassic World Dominion. The latter film’s primary story is about rescuing Maisie Lockwood, with her parents Claire and Owen circumnavigating the globe and battling bad guys to find her.
